Professor Charles Czeisler at Harvard University have conducted a research to know the amount of sleep hours per day is necessary. It was conducted over a decade between 2004 till 2014. Keeping their objectives in mind, they found out the right amount of time needed for a sleeping cycle and that will not affect one’s health in a negative way.
Here are the recommended hours segmented according to different age groups:
- Newborns (0 – 3 months): 14 – 17 hours per day.
- Babies (4 – 11 months): 12 – 15 hours per day.
- Children (1 – 2 years): 11 – 14 hours per day.
- Preschool (3 – 5 years): 10 – 13 hours per day.
- School age (6 – 13 years): 9 – 11 hours per day.
- Teens (14 – 17 years): 8 – 10 hours per day.
- Youths (18 – 25 years): 7 – 9 hours per day.
- Adults (26 – 64 years): 7 – 9 hours per day.
- Seniors (over 65 years): 7 – 8 hours per day.
In general, those are the sleeping hours for adults. They can differ from one person to another. However, less than the recommended can cause a great threat to your health.
